Oils are essential for loc care. They help lubricate the scalp and the loc shaft. They can add other enormous benefits. Here’s a go-to guide:
Carrier Oils
These oils can be used alone or as a base for adding other essential oils. These can be used as hot oil treatments or daily care:
Jojoba oil: Said to closely mimic the scalps natural oils produced by the sebaceous glands.
Sweet Almond Oil: Treating the scalp and hair to sweet almond oil, benefits follicles, prevents hair loss, provides shine and strengthens hair. Those with nut allergies should avoid its use.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Yes, right off the grocery store shelf! Olive oil is an effective treatment for hair loss. It also acts as a natural conditioner, making it shiny and soft.
Add these essential oils to the above for added benefits:

| Rosemary | This essential oil has been noted to assist with hair growth. Rosemary is not recommended for use by pregnant women or those who may think they are pregnant. |
| Thyme | A weekly spritz of thyme can promote the healthy production of oil, while preventing dryness to the point of dandruff. |
| Nettle | Also used for the treatment of dandruff. This essential oil is known to promote hair growth. |
| Sage | Another remedy some use for dandruff control, sage is also known as a color restorative to gray hair. |
| Chamomile | Chamomile benefits light-colored hair — it enhances the natural highlights without chemicals. |
| Horsetail | Hair that suffers from brittleness can benefit from horsetail, via a bi-weekly spritz. The high amount of silica present in horsetail helps to soften and condition dry, brittle hair. |
| Mint | Mint is a scalp stimulant, and stimulation is beneficial to blood flow and a healthy scalp. |
