Locs 101 | Adorn your locs!

by Gail Mitchell

Jeweled

What better way to add a little spark to your loc’dom than to add loc jewelry to your locs. It’s inexpensive, and the results are stunning.

You can do just cowrie shells (available at a craft store or at beauty supply stores). Just attach these to your locs by threading a small 1-inch rubberband through the opening of a shell. Take one side of the rubberband and loop it through the other side to form a slip knot. Take this opening in the rubberband to attach it to your locs. Put the loc through the opening and twist and loop the rubberband to the loc and thread the loc through until the cowrie shell is snug against it and the rubberband is slightly hidden. Don’t make it too tight, and don’t wear these too long, as the tension point can eventually create weak spots along your loc shaft.

You can also get loc jewelry already made. These usually have openings that you can either put the loc through, or with coils, twist the loc through the opening until it encases the loc.

Here’s a few little gems to get you started…
